Before I tell you about these great Petrie Dressage Boots I’d like to tell you about a comical dressage incident in England a few years ago.
My husband bought his beautiful grey Irish Sport Horse long before the breed became popular. We were living in England and his first grey horse had recently died. He was in deep mourning and I needed to find him another grey a.s.a.p.
We took the ferry from England to Ireland and stayed in County Cork. The hotel manager was an avid horseman and over the course of a week he took us to find The Ideal Horse.
He’d told everyone within a twenty mile radius that we were coming, and out came every single grey horse they could find. Many, many horses into our search, we finally arrived at the courtyard of a local farm. In the middle of the cobble stones stood a man holding a huge, beautiful iron grey gelding.
A tractor roared past him and he didn’t flinch. At this my husband and I exchanged impressed glances.
Meanwhile, a Border Collie was standing directly behind the gelding and chewing on his tail. The only reaction from the horse was to look round inquisitively to find out who was being so rude.
“That’s the horse for us!” we decided. (We did actually get on him, too.)

A week later the five year old took the ferry across the Irish Channel and came to live with us. My husband was very taken with him and began to ride dressage in earnest.
He took the horse to a local show, and the pair of them looked spectacular. The test was going beautifully until my husband added a half circle to his serpentine, and ended up facing the wrong way.
The judge rang her bell to indicate an error of course. He looked confused, so she stepped into the ring to explain where he’d gone wrong.
“Should I carry on?” he inquired of her.
“Rather!” came her enthusiastic reply.
When my husband had finished the test he rode out of the ring and complained to me: “I never can get those serendipities right!”
Perhaps the right dressage boots would have helped him ride those serpentines aka serendipities correctly?
Review of the Petrie Olympic Dressage Boots
The Petrie Olympic Dressage Boots is hand-made in Holland. It’s perfect if you’re looking for a boot which not only flatters and helps your position in the saddle, but also lasts a long time. The range of Petrie dressage boots on the market are some of the better high end dressage boots on the market. This naturally comes with a higher price tag.
A stiffener has been added at the back to help keep your leg elongated and placed correctly. This boot either feels comfortable immediately with no break-in period or else feels great after being worn just a few times. The foot bed in Petrie Olympic Dressage Boots is so well designed that they can be kept on comfortably all day.
The combination of back stiffener and snug ankle fit reduces the amount of shortening which is to be expected in all dressage boots over time, as they begin to sag and fold in the ankle area.
The contoured boot shaft hugs the rider’s leg, providing that elegant, slender fit coveted by all dressage riders. The calf leather lining of the boot interior is a classy touch and adds extra comfort.
The zipper is placed just inside the front, which makes it easy to insert your foot into the boot, provides a very snug fit round the ankle and reduces foot slippage inside the boot. The zipper remains hidden from view when riding, but is far forward enough not to rub on the saddle.
Thanks to their flattering Spanish cut, these boots look custom-made and fit every bit as well as their more expensive counterparts. Many customers who purchase these boots are repeat buyers, and those currently enjoying their first pair are already saying they would definitely buy them again.
In common with the pricier boots, Petrie Dressage Boots continue to look brand new even after they’ve been worn a long time.
As such they are ideal for shows as well as training. There is a huge benefit to being able to show with the same boots you ride in at home: they are familiar and comfortable, but look fantastic.
The craftsmanship of these handmade boots is outstanding. They are built to last and excellent value for the money. Cheaper boots usually need to be replaced frequently, but Petrie Olympic Dressage Boots last for years.
They are available in an impressive array of sizes, lengths and widths and can also be made to measure. So you’re sure to find a pair which fits you perfectly.
The Petrie Olympic Dressage Boots are ideal for the dressage rider who’s willing to make a serious investment in a stylish, comfortable boot made to last. It does come with a higher price tag than some of the other dressage boots I’ve mentioned but, as the saying goes “You get what your pay for!”
